Dr. Michele Martin is the owner of Integrated Relational Counseling (IRC). She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and has a MS from The Family Institute at Northwestern University and a PhD from the Institute for Clinical Social Work. Michele uses her trainings in systemic and psychoanalytic theory to bring a more in depth and integrated approach to her work. She also specializes in using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) with individuals. Michele provides genuine warmth and a safe, confidential place for her clients. She has a collaborative approach to therapy and is open to receiving feedback regarding the process from her clients.
Most of my clients, if not all, come to see me to talk about relationships: Relationships with parents, siblings, spouses, children, co-workers, friends and especially the relationship with themselves. I am not a therapist who just sits back and listens and nods at you but will be an active presence in the session with you. I recognize it takes courage to begin therapy and you are creating a relationship with me. It is through this relationship you will learn to heal other significant relationships. As we work together, I will gently confront and push you to deepen your work and help you to release and free yourself from old inhibiting beliefs and fears.
Michele has been a lecturer in the Master’s program at ICSW as well as the Practicum Coordinator. She is an individual supervisor for The Family Institute and a clinical member and Approved Supervisor through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She has conducted research on couples in blended families and is published in the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage.
